1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Spring-Training Ball with Leo Durocher
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $600
Official National League (Frick) ball signed in blue or black ink by twenty-seven members of the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers. This ball, which dates to the 1947-1948 manufacturing period, appears to have been signed during spring training, as it includes a few players who did not make the team that year (Paepke, Tatum, and Head) and the signature of Branch Rickey Jr., who was in charge of the club's farm system. Jackie Robinson was still a member of the Montreal Royals during spring training of 1947, so it is not surprising that his signature does not appear on the ball. Also, Leo Durocher was suspended for an entire year by Commissioner Chandler (for "association with known gamblers") right before the season started, making this is a particularly rare 1947 Dodgers team ball featuring his signature as manager. The signatures appearing on this ball are those of Durocher (Mgr., sweet spot), Reese, Vaughan, Reiser (sweet spot), Stanky (twice), Melton, Hatten, Stevens, Rickey Jr., Head (twice), Blades (coach), Walker, Lavagetto, Ramsdell, Tatum, Miksis, Bragan, Gregg, Paepke, Branca, Edwards, HIgbe, Behman, Lombardi, Whitman, Hermanski, and Pitler (coach). Signatures range from "6" to "9," averaging "7/8." Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $600
