Circa 1930s Walter Johnson Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,900
Worth "Official League Ball" signed by Walter Johnson in black fountain pen (grading "6/7") across the sweet spot. This ball displays four signature removals, one on each of the four side panels, which are readily evident to the naked eye. The intent behind those removals was, of course, so that the ball would display as a Walter Johnson single-signed ball and in that regard, the objective has been fulfilled. Walter Johnson single-signed balls are scarce and oftentimes exceed most collecting budgets. The fact that this ball offers the same exact aesthetic appeal as any other Johnson single, but will sell for a significant discount to a true single-signed ball, makes it an appealing alternative to many collectors. The ball is lightly toned and displays a number of light-to-moderate abrasions, including those as a result of the removals. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,900
