1935 Babe Ruth and Rabbit Maranville Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400
Wilson-brand baseball signed in black fountain pen by two Hall of Fame players: Babe Ruth and Rabbit Maranville. Ruth's signature appears on the sweet spot and grades "5," while Maranville's is located on the north panel and grades "3/4." Each signature has been coated with a thin layer of protective shellac. Both Ruth and Maranville finished their long Major League careers with the Boston Braves in 1935. Since 1935 was the only year in which they played together, it seems reasonable to assume that this ball dates from that season. Regardless of its exact origin, it remains a rare pairing of Hall of Fame signatures on a baseball and represents the first such example we have seen. The ball is darkly toned, with a number of moderate abrasions, some of which touch upon each signature. The only manufacturer's lettering that is legible is "Wilson." In Good to Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,400
