Circa 1934 Dizzy and Daffy Dean Signed Photo
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,080
Original photo picturing Dizzy and Daffy Dean posing together on the bench as members of the St. Louis Cardinals, signed by each player in blue fountain pen. Both signatures have been scripted atop the player's respective image and grade "8/9." While there have been other sibling pitchers in baseball history who won more games, none were ever more popular than Dizzy and Daffy Dean, especially in 1934. During that memorable season the brothers Dean combined for forty-nine regular-season wins (Dizzy won 30, Paul 19) and were also responsible for all four Cardinals World Series victories (each brother won 2 games) that fall. Surprisingly, signed photos of the pair are extremely scarce. This is the first we have offered and we cannot recall having seen more than one or two others at auction in recent times. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays numerous creases, as well as a few edge tears. In Good to Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,080
