Late 1920s Signed Government Postcard Collection Plus "Cuts" (8 Including 6 HOFers) - Baseball Players

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,560

Collection of five government postcards, plus three cuts, each featuring the signature of a different 1920s baseball star. Six of the eight signatures in this lot are Hall of Famers. The five government postcards are part of a larger signed government postcard collection offered in this auction (presented in four separate lots), all of which were originally obtained by a family member of our consignor during the late 1920s and early 1930s. All have remained in the family's sole possession since that time and are being offered here for the very first time. Unless otherwise noted, all of the postcards (5.5 x 3 inches) are postmarked 1929, while the three cuts are each hand-dated "1927." All of the signatures have been scripted in black fountain pen. Government Postcards (5 total). 1) Rogers Hornsby (graded "9/10, with light brushing; postmarked 1928). 2) Dazzy Vance ("9"). 3) Connie Mack ("9"). 4) Mickey Cochrane ("8/9").5) Max Bishop ("9"). All of the postcards feature brief handwritten notes regarding the respective signer on the front, and all but the Vance card have cut newspaper photos of the player affixed to the front as well. All of the cards display both adhesive residue and surface paper loss on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album, and most display varying degrees of creasing. In Very Good condition overall. Cut Signatures (3 total). 1) Paul Waner ("10"). 2) Lloyd Waner ("10"). 3) Johnny Neun ("10"). All of the signatures are on cut sheets of lined paper measuring approximately 4.5 x 2 inches. Like the government postcards, all of the cuts feature brief handwritten notes regarding the respective player on the front. All display varying degrees of creasing and/or folds. In Very Good condition overall. Total: 8 items (5 government postcards and 3 cuts). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,560
