1929 Chicago White Sox Team-Signed Ball with Charles Comiskey, Ed Walsh, and Ed Walsh Jr.
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $600
Wilson "Official League" ball signed in black ink by sixteen members of the 1929 Chicago White Sox, plus team owner Charles Comiskey. Comiskey's signature, which sits alone on a side panel, is one of the strongest signatures on the ball and grades "4." Other signatures include those of Ed Walsh (coach), Ed Walsh Jr., Bill Hunnefield, Martin Audry, Bill Cissell, Art Shires, and Lena Blackburne (Mgr.). The remaining signatures have faded beyond legibility. Signatures range from "1" to "4," averaging "2." The black-ink notation "White Sox 1929" is printed on a side panel, directly above Comiskey's signature. Although the signatures are extremely light, the fact that this ball includes Comiskey makes it especially desirable. This is only second ball we have ever offered that features a Comiskey signature. The signature of Ed Walsh Jr., son of Hall of Famer Ed Waslh, is also rare, as he died in 1937 at the age of thirty-two. The ball displays only light soiling and is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $600
