1983 Pete Rose and Bart Giamatti Signed First-Day Cover

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $540

Rare signature pairing of Pete Rose and A. Bartlett Giamatti on a 1983 first-day cover commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the All-Star Game. Both Rose and Giamatti have signed the first-day cover in blue ink, with each signature grading "10." Rose and Giamatti will forever be linked in baseball history, as it was Giamatti, acting as commissioner of baseball, who officially banned Rose from baseball for life in 1989. Unfortunately, Giamatti died just eight days after placing Rose on baseball's ineligible list. This is the first item we have ever offered signed by both Rose and Giamatti. The envelope (3.5 x 6.25 inches) is postmarked "Chicago, IL Jul 6 1983" and features a twenty-cent stamp featuring Babe Ruth. In apparent Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 11 x 8.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $540
