Jackie Robinson Signed 1960 First Edition of Wait Till Next Year
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,000
Hardcover first edition of Wait Till Next Year by Carl Rowan with Jackie Robinson, inscribed and dated in blue ink by Robinson on the front flyleaf: "5-25-60/Best Wishes/Jackie Robinson." Both the signature and inscription grade "9." Published in 1960 by Random House, New York. Complete with original dust jacket. This is a very impressive signed volume that has Robinson's picture on the dust jacket and is therefore also ideal for display. Although technically not an autobiography, Wait Till Next Year was written in full cooperation with Robinson and accurately reflects Robinson’s views and opinions. Carl Rowan was one of the most respected African-American journalists of his day and later served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under President John F. Kennedy. When this book was published, Jackie Robinson presented a few signed copies to friends. This is a rarely seen top-quality signed edition given as a personal gift by Jackie Robinson in the year of publication. The 338-page book is in Excellent to Mint condition. The dust jacket (Vg) displays moderate wear, including a number of border creases and edge tears that have been reinforced/repaired on the reverse with clear tape. Housed in a custom-made leather-bound solander case for optimum preservation. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,000
