1993 Topps Finest Refractors Partial Set (90 Different) Including PSA MINT 9 Nolan Ryan and Cal Ripken

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $6,600

Exceptional ultra high-grade partial set of 1993 Topps Finest Refractors consisting of ninety different cards out of 199 in a complete set, highlighted by PSA MINT 9 examples of Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken, and Tony Gwynn, plus nine duplicates. The Topps Finest Refractors set is a parallel version on the base Finest set, designed with a special foil coating designed to enhance the card image. One of the first "chase" parallels produced by card manufacturers, each card was thought to be limited to 250 examples, although several short prints exist and subsequent inventory appears to have been released for some of the cards, which increased the known population beyond 250. While the exact production numbers are not known, examples from this set remain much more limited than other cards from the era and are extremely desirable among collectors. Three cards are graded by PSA (Ripken and Ryan submitted by REA). This collection consists of the following: #2-4, 6-8, 10, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, 30, 31, 35, 36, 38-41, 48, 49, 52, 53, 57, 58, 63, 71, 73, 77 Gwynn (MINT 9), 79, 84, 90-92, 96 Ripken (MINT 9), 99, 103-105, 107 Ryan (MINT 9), 111-113, 116-118, 122-125, 131, 133, 141, 144, 145, 149, 150, 155-157, 159-163, 165, 167, 171, 175, 177-179, 181-183, 185-187, 189, 192, and 194-199. The nine duplicates are #6, 22, 38, 39, 77, 90, 92, 112, and 189. All cards in this collection are Nr-Mt/Mt or better and would be prime candidates for professional grading. This partial set was assembled by our consignor in 1993 and remained part of his extensive collection until now. This is an outstanding collection these desirable and condition-sensitive cards with several notable highlights. The SMR value for just the three graded cards is $1,345 (auction records for the Ryan in particular exceed the stated SMR value). Total: 99 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $6,600
