1968 Topps Near-Complete Set (566/598)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,400
38% Nr/Mt or better, 41% Ex-Mt, and 21% Ex (with a few lesser). Highlighted by the rookie card of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, this 1968 Topps near-complete set is loaded with other Hall of Famers and stars, including the second-to-last card of Mickey Mantle. This is an extremely clean and overall high-grade near-complete set consigned from an old-time collection! It was very likely assembled directly from packs in the year of issue and carefully stored for decades. We have selected two cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #20 B. Robinson (Ex+), 45 Seaver (Ex), 50 Mays (2/98 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 80 Carew (Ex-Mt), 110 Aaron (Ex-Mt), 150 Clemente (Ex), 177 Ryan RC (NM 84), 230 Rose (Ex-Mt), 240 Kaline (Ex), 250 Yastrzemski (Nr/Mt), 280 Mantle (NM+ 86), 330 Maris (Ex-Mt+), 355 Banks (Ex), 480 Manager's Dream (Nr/Mt), 500 F. Robinson (Nr/Mt), 520 Brock (Nr/Mt-Mt), 528 Tigers (Ex), and 575 Palmer (Nr/Mt+). Missing the following cards for completion: #5, 9, 11, 17, 25, 37 B. Williams, 79, 89, 97, 100 Gibson, 103 Sutton, 104, 106, 120, 153, 181, 183, 228, 247 Bench RC, 324, 332, 333, 343, 348, 352, 490 Superstars, 494, 503, 517, 527, 529, and 530 Bird Belters. Many of the lesser-graded cards within this set have a higher-grade appearance and have been downgraded solely due to centering problems, which are common with this issue. This is a beautiful near-complete set with many highlights! The equivalent SMR value of just the two graded cards (factoring in the one half-grade at the lower whole-grade level and not including the 564 ungraded cards!) is $965. Total: 566 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $5,400
