High-Grade 1966 Topps Partial Set (498/598)
Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $10,800
45% Nr/Mt or better, 37% Ex-Mt, and 18% Ex (including some lesser). High-grade partial set of 1966 Topps cards consisting of 498 different out of 598 cards in the complete set. Missing #121, 126 Palmer RC, 166, 178, 182, 294, 302, 312, 321, 328, 339, 347, 366, 389, 395, 396, 400, 406, 407, 415, 416, 419, 423, 437, and 523-598 for completion. This is a beautiful partial set that has been consigned by the family of an old-time collector who kept his sets stored away safely for decades. These cards were very likely pulled directly from packs and stored away in the year of issue! The 1966 Topps set is one of the most popular classics of the decade. After winning the Most Valuable Player award in 1965, Willie Mays was honored by Topps with its card #1 position in the 1966 set. The set has the distinction as the only Topps set to feature Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays on the same card (#215). We have selected ten cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Mays (NM 84), 30 Rose (NM 84), 50 Mantle (NM/MT 88), 70 Yastrzemski (miscut, otherwise Nr/Mt), 72 Perez (Ex), 100 Koufax (NM 84), 110 Banks (Nr/Mt), 120 Killebrew (NM/MT 88), 125 Brock (Nr/Mt), 132 Cepeda (Nr/Mt-Mt), 160 Ford (Ex), 195 Morgan (miscut, otherwise Ex-Mt), 200 Mathews (Ex-Mt), 215 NL Batting LDRS (Nr/Mt-Mt), 254 Jenkins RC (NM 84), 255 Stargell (Nr/Mt), 288 Sutton RC (NM 84), 300 Clemente (NM/MT 88), 310 F. Robinson (Ex-Mt), 320 Gibson (Nr/Mt), 365 Maris (Ex+), 390 B. Robinson (Ex), 410 Kaline (NM/MT 88), 500 Aaron (NM 84), and 510 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt+). Almost all of the cards graded Ex or Ex-Mt have been downgraded entirely due to centering issues, which are common for cards from this year. All cards are crisp, clean, and appear pack-fresh with only a few exceptions. This is an extraordinary partial set, containing almost all of the Hall of Famers that make this set so desirable, and providing a superb foundation for the assembly of a beautiful complete set. The equivalent SMR value for just the ten graded cards (not including the 488 ungraded cards) is $2,040. Total: 498 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $10,800
