51% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint), 43% Ex-Mt, and 6% Ex. Extremely attractive, crisp, and clean complete set of 1965 Topps. One of the most popular sets of the decade, the 1965 Topps set includes rookie cards of Hall of Famers Joe Morgan, Steve Carlton, Catfish Hunter, and Tony Perez. We have selected fifteen cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #16 Morgan RC (NM+ 86), 120 F. Robinson (MINT 96), 130 Kaline (Nr/Mt), 134 Mantle WS (NM/MT+ 92), 150 B. Robinson (NM/MT 88), 155 Maris (NM/MT 88), 160 Clemente (NM/MT 88), 170 Aaron (NM/MT 88), 176 McCovey (NM/MT+ 92), 205 Spahn (Nr/Mt+), 207 Rose (Ex-Mt), 250 Mays (NM/MT 88), 260 Drysdale (Nr/Mt-Mt), 300 Koufax (NM/MT 88), 320 Gibson (Ex-Mt+), 350 Mantle (NM 84), 377 Stargell (NM/MT+ 92), 385 Yastrzemski (Nr/Mt), 400 Killebrew (NM/MT 88), 461 Niekro (Ex-Mt), 470 Berra (Ex-Mt), 477 Carlton RC (NM/MT 88), 510 Banks (Nr/Mt), 526 Hunter RC (Ex-Mt), 540 Brock (Nr/Mt), 581 Perez RC (NM/MT 88). Missing the following seventeen cards for completion: #7, 11, 31, 50, 59, 90, 169, 172, 251, 328, 330 Ford, 331, 460, 468, 471, 489, and 500 Mathews. This is an outstanding high-grade near-complete set of this popular 1960s issue with numerous notable highlights. Consigned from an old-time collection, this set has been in storage for decades, and the cards which comprise it were very likely pulled directly from packs and stored away in the year of issue. (Interesting note: the collection from which this set originates had many sets in duplicate, and the first 1965 Topps set we offered from the collection realized $16,590 as lot #812 in REA's Spring 2014 auction.) All cards are bright and fresh, with centering the only technical fault on almost all of the Ex and Ex-Mt cards. The equivalent SMR value for just the fifteen graded cards (factoring in the four half grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the 566 ungraded cards) is $3,423. Total: 581 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $16,800
