1963 Topps Complete Set (576)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,200

Extremely attractive and overall high-grade complete set of 1963 Topps baseball. The 1963 Topps set is highlighted by the key rookie cards of Pete Rose and Willie Stargell and features many additional star cards, including Roberto Clemente and Duke Snider in the difficult high-number series. 25% Nr/Mt or better, 42% Ex-Mt, and 33% Ex (including some lesser due to drastic centering issues). Consigned from an old-time collection, this set was very likely assembled directly from packs in the year of issue and carefully stored for decades, which helped to preserve its pack-fresh appearance. Brilliant colors, crisp images, bright white borders, and sharp corners! Centering, which is commonly an issue with this set, is the only flaw on almost all of the lesser-graded cards. We have selected four cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 NL Batting Ldrs (Ex), 2 AL Batting Ldrs (Ex), 3 NL HR Ldrs (Vg), 18 Buc Blasters (thin top border, otherwise Nr/Mt), 25 Kaline (Ex-Mt), 68 Friendly Foes (Ex+), 115 Yastrzemski (Ex-Mt), 120 Maris (Nr/Mt-Mt), 138 Mays/Musial (Ex-Mt+), 173 Bombers' Best with Mantle (NM/MT 88), 200 Mantle (NM 84), 210 Koufax (Nr/Mt), 242 Banks/Aaron (Nr/Mt), 250 Musial (Ex+), 275 Mathews (thin right border, otherwise Nr/Mt), 300 Mays (Ex-Mt+), 320 Spahn (Nr/Mt), 340 Berra (Ex-Mt+), 345 B. Robinson (Ex), 360 Drysdale (Ex), 380 Banks (Ex+), 390 Aaron (EX/NM+ 82), 400 F. Robinson (Nr/Mt-Mt), 412 Dodgers' Big Three with Koufax (Nr/Mt), 415 Gibson (Nr/Mt+), 440 Marichal (Ex-Mt), 446 Ford (Ex-Mt), 472 Brock (Ex), 490 McCovey (Ex-Mt), 500 Killebrew SP (Ex+), 537 Rose RC (95/5 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 540 Clemente (NM 84), 550 Snider (Nr/Mt+), and 553 Stargell RC (thin bottom border, otherwise Nr/Mt). The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1963 Topps baseball set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. It is extremely rare to find such a crisp, clean, sharp-looking complete set with the numerous highlights of the offered set. The equivalent SMR value for just the four graded cards (not including the 572 ungraded cards!) is $1,065. Total: 576 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $7,200
