1960 Topps Venezuelan #160 Rival All Stars with Mickey Mantle

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,680

Graded VG 3 by PSA. Outstanding example of one of the key cards to the 1960 Topps Venezuelan set: the "Rival All Stars" card featuring Mickey Mantle and Ken Boyer. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 198 cards of Topps’ 1960 baseball set were reprinted on a non-glossy cardboard stock for sale exclusively in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards, with slightly less gloss, and the backs feature lighter black printing. While this card is far from Mint condition, it is far above average for this unusual issue. They are almost always found with drastic paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse, since these cards were intended to be glued into an album produced for that purpose. This is a very attractive example, with light, even wear to the corners, and tiny spots of paper loss on the reverse (entirely unobtrusive). Though they receive little attention because they are virtually never found in high grade, Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and rare baseball-card sets of the decade. This is a superb Venezuelan example of one of the key cards of the decade, and a rarity that would be a significant addition to any Topps Venezuelan, type-card, or Mickey Mantle collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,680
