1963 Salada-Junket Coins Complete Set (63): #5 PSA Set Registry (8.67 GPA)!

Presented is a complete ultra high-grade set of 1963 Salada-Junket Coins. Each coin is professionally graded by PSA, with forty-two PSA MINT 9s and twenty-one PSA NM-MT 8s. The set currently ranks fifth on the PSA Set Registry with an extraordinarily impressive overall GPA of 8.67. The 1963 set was a welcome change for collectors, as Salada limited its output to 63 coins, calling it the "All-Star" series. This time the coins were produced in metal, a style that Topps would imitate in the production of its inserts the following year. The coins had a bright, light blue border for the American League players (32), and a bright red border for the players of the National League (31). The back design included the player's name, the number of the coin in the series, a few player's stats from the previous season, and the Salada and Junket logos. Some of the coins reuse the painted photos from the previous year, but the vast majority use great new color photos. Exactly one-third of the set (twenty-one coins) depicts Hall of Famers. These coins are extremely difficult to find in high grade, as the paint chips off the rims of the coins quite easily. Also, there is often scratching on the coins' faces, due to manufacturing problems with some of the dies. This is a very impressive complete set, carefully assembled by our consignor over a period of many years, of this attractive and colorful 1960s set with countless highlights. Total: 63 coins.
