1955 Topps #164 Roberto Clemente Rookie

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,040

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Extremely strong mid-grade example of Roberto Clemente's rookie card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Clemente's rookie card is the key to the 1955 Topps set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. This card is bright and clean, both front and back, with light, even wear at the corners, and strong colors and gloss. The card exhibits near-perfect centering (which is particularly rare as centering is so often a problem with this card). Usually this card is offered by Robert Edward Auctions only in the context of a complete set, but we are presenting this modern classic as its own lot in part to emphasize that, with patience, some of card collecting's most interesting and iconic cards are possible to obtain in extremely high grade without spending a fortune. This is a strong example of Roberto Clemente’s rookie card, one of the most important of all classic 1950s cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,040
