1947-1966 Exhibits Collection (207 Different)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,680

Presented is an outstanding partial set consisting of 207 different cards (out of 336 in a complete set) from the 1947-1966 Exhibits series. Also included are eleven duplicates. Issued by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago over a period of twenty years, the 1947-1966 Exhibits set is loaded with Hall of Famers, stars, and other key cards that make it one of the most comprehensive sets of the era. It is also one of the most overlooked and has received far less attention than it deserves. Exhibit cards were traditionally sold for one penny each, from vending machines placed at arcades and amusement parks for more than four decades (from 1921 to the early 1960s). This partial set has been built by our consignor over a period of many years and provides a superb foundation for the assembly of a complete set. Keys: Banks/script (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex+), Banks/plain (Vg), Berra/Made in USA lower right (Gd), Drysdale (tiny pencil mark on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), Mantle/full-length (Ex), Mays/batting (Vg), Mays/portrait (Ex), McCoskey (tiny pencil mark on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), Musial/kneeling (Gd), Musial/batting (Fr), Paige (Vg+), Richardson (erased pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), F. Robinson (Ex+), J. Robinson (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg), Ward (Ex-Mt+), Yastrzemski (Ex+), 1955 Dodgers Team (tiny pencil mark on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 1950 Yankees Team (Gd), 1952 Yankees Team (Vg), and 1956 Yankees Team (pen on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex+). The balance of the cards in this collection range in grade from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt, with approximately 25% lesser (two-thirds of which are downgraded solely due to pencil on the reverse and otherwise present as Vg-Ex or better). Also included are eleven duplicates and four 1962 Stat-back Exhibits (Boyer, Cepeda, Clemente, and Kaline). This is a very attractive partial set of this popular, substantial, and somewhat overlooked set, and is most definitely an unusually advanced collection of the Exhibits Supply Company issue. A complete inventory of the cards in this collection is available upon request. Total: 222 cards (207 cards from the 1947-1966 set, eleven duplicates from the 1947-1966 set, and four 1962 Stat-back Exhibits). Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,680
