1947-1966 Exhibits Near-Complete Set (333/336) Including Five Signed Cards

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $6,600

Presented is an outstanding near-complete set of 1947-1966 Exhibits consisting of 333 cards (out of 336), including virtually all of the Hall of Famers, stars, and rarities that make it one of the most comprehensive sets of the era. Missing only C. Coleman, Mantle/connected, and McDougald/Made in USA for completion. This particular set also contains five signed cards, including a particularly noteworthy multisigned Brooklyn Dodgers team card. The five signed cards are Ford/portrait, Killebrew/portrait, Kluszewski/plain, Roberts/white, and 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Team, signed by Alston, Drysdale, Koufax, Maglie, Newcombe, and Reese. Issued by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago over a period of twenty years, the 1947-1966 Exhibits set is perhaps one of the most overlooked and has received far less attention than it deserves. Exhibit cards were traditionally sold for one penny each, from vending machines placed at arcades and amusement parks for more than four decades (from 1921 to the early 1960s). This near-complete set was built by our consignor over a period of many years and represents a superb collecting achievement. We have seen fewer than ten complete sets or near-complete sets of this size ever offered at public auction. The winner of this near-complete set can very easily add the three missing cards and make it a beautiful complete set, one of the very few in existence. Keys: Aaron (Ex), Banks/script (pen on reverse, otherwise Vg+), Banks/plain (Gd/Vg), Banks/portrait (Ex+), L. Berra (Ex+), Berra/Made in USA lower right (Ex+), Berra/Printed in USA lower right (Ex), Clemente (Ex), Ed "Whitey" Ford (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), Ford/pitching (Ex), Ford/portrait (signed, Ex+), Killebrew/with bat (Ex), Killebrew/portrait (signed, Vg-Ex+), Killebrew/throwing (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), Koufax (Ex-Mt), Mantle/full-length (Ex), Mantle/not connected (Ex-Mt), Mantle/portrait (Ex), Mays/batting (Vg+), Mays/portrait (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), McCoskey (Ex), Musial/kneeling (Ex-Mt), Musial/batting (Ex+), Paige (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex+), Richardson (Vg), Roberts/white (signed, Vg-Ex), F. Robinson (Vg-Ex+), J. Robinson (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), Ward (Ex-Mt), Yastrzemski (Ex+), 1955 Dodgers Team (Vg-Ex+), and 1956 Dodgers Team (signed, otherwise Gd/Vg). The balance of the cards in this collection range in grade from Ex to Ex-Mt, with approximately 30% lesser (half of which are downgraded solely due to markings on the reverse - mostly pencil - and otherwise present as Vg-Ex or better). This extremely attractive near-complete 1947-1966 Exhibits set is loaded with highlights and would be an extremely significant addition to even the most advanced collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA for the five signed cards. Total: 333 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $6,600
