1947-1948 Real-Photo Postcard with Ray Dandridge
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $540
Rare real-photo postcard capturing Ray Dandridge posing together on the steps of the dugout with teammates Conrado Perez and Adrian Zabala while playing for Cuba in the 1947-1948 Cuban Players' Federation League. The Cuban Players' Federation League was formed in 1947 by a union of Cuban baseball players as an alternative to the Cuban Winter League. (Cuba was one of four teams in the league; the others were the Leones, the Alacranes, and Santiago.) Although it was successful in recruiting many star players, it lacked the necessary financial and administrative support to succeed. As a result, the league folded after just one year of play. Any items relating to that short-lived league are rare, especially those featuring a player of Dandridge's status. Although the quality of the photo is outstanding, it has been encapsulated and graded "POOR 10" by SGC because of a few areas of surface paper loss on the front (two of which have been filled in with ink) The card has not been addressed or mailed. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $540
