1934-1936 R327 Diamond Stars Near-Complete Set (89/108)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,000

Extremely attractive near-complete set of R327 Diamond Stars consisting of eighty-nine different of the 108 cards in the set. 6% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 60% Vg-Ex to Ex, 13% Gd to Vg, and 21% presenting as Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt but appearing to have a slight trim. This is a very attractive near-complete set of this classic 1930s gum-card issue, which is highlighted by thirty Hall of Famers and includes six of the twelve rare high-number series cards (#97-108), which have always made this issue so difficult to complete. We have selected nine cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Grove (EX/NM 80), 2 Simmons (Ex), 3 Maranville (NM 84), 11 Dickey (slight trim, otherwise Ex), 14 Terry (slight trim, otherwise Ex), 16 Waner (Ex+), 17 Frisch (EX+ 70), 18 Hafey (Ex+), 27 Traynor (Ex), 28 Lopez (Ex+), 30 Manush (slight trim, otherwise Ex), 31 Cuyler (Ex), 32 Rice (Ex+), 35 Averill (slight trim, otherwise Ex), 36 Lombardi (NM 84), 39 Hubbell (EX 60), 43 Lyons (Vg-Ex), 44 Hornsby (VG/EX+ 55), 48 Ferrell (Ex), 50 Ott (NM 84), 54 Greenberg (Gd), 60 Ruffing (Vg-Ex), 63 Jackson (Ex), 66 Medwick (trimmed, otherwise Vg), 74 Lazzeri (EX/NM 80), 77 Gehringer (VG/EX+ 55), 83 Waner (Vg-Ex), 98 High # (Vg-Ex), 99 Traynor (Vg-Ex+), 100 Averill (slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt), 103 Dickey (Vg+), 107 High # (Vg+), and 108 Berger (last card in set, Vg). Missing only the following nineteen cards for completion: #4, 9 Cochrane, 12, 23, 59 Bottomley, 64 Foxx, 69, 73, 78, 86, 91 Harris, 95 Appling, 96, 97 Lopez, 101, 102, 104, 105 Lombardi, and 106. This is a very sharp-looking mid-grade near-complete set of one of the 1930s' most popular issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the nine graded cards (not including the additional 80 ungraded cards!) is $2,420. Total: 89 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $6,000
