1933 R333 DeLong #7 Lou Gehrig PSA NM 7
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $13,200
Graded NM 7 by PSA. Offered is an extraordinary high-grade example of this classic Lou Gehrig card. Only nine examples grade higher out of 175 cards evaluated to date. This is one of Gehrig's rarest 1930s cards and the key card to the DeLong Gum set. Gehrig, of course, is not just the highlight of the DeLong Gum set; it is one of the highlights of all Lou Gehrig cards and all 1930s gum cards. DeLongs have always been highly appreciated by advanced collectors. The small number of cards in the set, their relative scarcity compared to most others card sets of the era, their unique dimensions, design, and the fact that they were only a one-year issue all combine to give DeLongs a special mystique. This R333 DeLong Lou Gehrig example is extremely bright and clean, both front and back, with strong corners showing just the slightest hints of wear. Gehrig’s flawless image contrasts sharply against the striking colorful background. Centered ever-so-slightly towards the right, which is almost inconsequential given the thin borders of the DeLongs. The black text on the reverse is crisp and bold, and the text is perfectly centered. The R333 is one of Gehrig's most popular and desirable cards, and one of the most famous and majestic cards in the collecting world. The R333 Gehrig is also far rarer than Gehrig's 1933 Goudey counterparts, especially in high grade. Due to this far greater rarity, we have always thought the DeLong of Gehrig represented a particularly exceptional value among all Lou Gehrig cards. This is an extremely attractive ultra high-grade example of one of Gehrig's most classic cards. The SMR value is $12,000. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $13,200
