1921-1930 M. L. Die-Cuts Collection (23) Including Ruth and Gehrig
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840
Collection of twenty-three different die-cuts from the 1921-1930 M. L. Die-Cuts set, highlighted by ten Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. This collection consists of twelve die-cuts featuring New York Yankees players and eleven die-cuts featuring Brooklyn Robins players. These die-cuts, which measure approximately 2.5 x 1.25 inches, were issued in conjunction with a board game called "Major League Ball - The Indoor Baseball Game Supreme" over a period of several years. Each die-cut features a generic player image along with an identifying last name, position, and team at the bottom. All twenty-three die-cuts in this collection are numbered at the base as well, which dates them to post-1925 according to the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. This collection consists of the following: New York AL: #1 Ruffing, 2 Shocker, 4 Koenig, 5 Pennock, 6 Collins, 7 Bengough, 8 Dugan, 9 Meusel, 10 Gehrig, 11 Lazzeri, 12 Combs, and 14 Ruth. Brooklyn NL: #2 Hoyt, 4 Vance, 5 Ruether, 7 Lopez, Picinich, 8 Gilbert, 9 O'Doul, 10 Herman, 12 Witt, 13 Bancroft, and 14 Cox. This collection is in overall extremely modest condition, with light creases, surface wear, and writing on the blank reverses. Despite these flaws (which are typical for the issue due to their method of issue and intended purpose), the collection represents an affordable group of sample cards from this fascinating set, highlighted by several of the greatest players of the 1920s, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Total: 23 die-cuts. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $840
