1934 R320 Goudey Partial Set (62/96) Including Lou Gehrig
Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $5,400
Partial set of 1934 Goudey Gum comprised of sixty-two different cards (out of ninety-six), highlighted by Lou Gehrig and nine other Hall of Famers. The 1934 Goudey set, also commonly referred to as the "Lou Gehrig says..." set, is one of the most popular of all 1930s bubble-gum card issues. Included are stars such as Lou Gehrig, Dizzy Dean, and Frankie Frisch, among others, as well as the very scarce 24-card high-number (#73-96) series that has always made completing this classic set especially challenging for collectors. Twelve high-number cards are included in this partial set. Missing the following thirty-four cards for completion: #1 Foxx, 11 P. Waner, 12 Hubbell, 14, 18 Manush, 21 Terry, 22 Vaughan, 23 Gehringer, 25, 27 Appling, 34 Hafey, 37 Gehrig, 38, 40, 43, 44, 46, 51, 58, 68, 69, 70, 73, 74, 75, 77, 80, 83, 85, 87, 89, 92, 93, and 94. Condition of the cards is 46% Ex (including a few better), 17% Vg-Ex, 10% Vg, and 27% with evidence of slight trimming (otherwise presenting as Vg-Ex to Ex). We have submitted nine cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #2 Cochrane (EX 5), 6 Dean (EX-MT 6), 7 Durocher (EX 5), 10 Klein (Vg), 13 Frisch (EX 5), 19 Grove (VG-EX+ 4.5), 35 Lombardi (EX 5), 61 Gehrig (Authentic, due to evidence of trimming, otherwise Vg-Ex), 62 Greenberg (EX+ 5.5), and 90 Cuyler (VG-EX+ 4.5). This is a very attractive, midgrade partial set of this classic 1930s Goudey gum-card issue, including one of the two 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig cards. The SMR value for eight of the graded cards (not including the Gehrig and factoring in the three half-grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $2,095. Total: 62 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $5,400
