1929 Leader Novelty Candy Co. Hack Wilson - 1 of 1 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $720

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded by PSA at any level of Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Hack Wilson from the extremely scarce 1929 Leader Novelty Candy Co. issue. Believed to be an insert in boxes of Leader Novelty Candy, these small cards, which measure approximately 1-3/4 x 2-5/8 inches, share images with the R316 Kashin Publications set. Wilson is depicted in a sepia-toned throwing pose on the offered card, which has a crisp image, strong corners (slightly more wear in the upper left), and a clean blank reverse, with only a faint crease visible, which accounts for the assigned grade. To date, SGC and PSA combined have graded only fifty examples in total from this set. The set is so rare that while only thirty-three different subjects have been verified to date, it is possible that the entire set may include as many as 101 subjects if the entire R316 checklist can also be found on Leader Novelty cards. This is one of only two examples of Wilson graded between the two companies (SGC graded the other example "Authentic"). This is an outstanding and extremely rare Hall of Fame sample card from this obscure 1920s issue and would be a worthy addition to any Hack Wilson, Hall of Fame, or type-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $720
