1928 W502 #26 Lou Gehrig SGC NM+ 86 - 1 of 1- Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,680
Graded NM+ 86 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by SGC with none higher! Presented is an exceptional high-grade example of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig from the W502 "Game Backs" strip-card set. While little is known about the W502 set with respect to its precise method of distribution, the cards were clearly designed to be used to play a baseball card game (various game "plays" are listed on the reverse of each card) and were very likely produced as a promotional vehicle for merchants. Cards from this set very closely resemble several other issues from the same time period, including the Yuengling's, Tharp's, and Harrington's ice-cream sets. The offered example of Gehrig is crisp and clean, both front and back, with a flawless image, four sharp corners, and outstanding centering. This is an exceptional ultra high-grade card from this distinctive and classic 1920s issue featuring Lou Gehrig during the height of his career! Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,680
