1920s W519, W521, and W551 Strip-Card Collection (24) Including Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,320

Outstanding collection of twenty-four different strip cards from three classic 1920s sets, highlighted by twelve Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth (numerically graded VG 40 by SGC, submitted by REA) . This collection consists of the following: 1) 1920 W519-2 (6 cards): Partial set of six cards (out of ten in a complete set) consists of Cicotte (Black Sox), Cravath, Frisch, Kreuger, Morton, and Murphy. Condition is one Vg and five Pr to Gd. 2) 1920 W519 Unnumbered (1 card): #9 Robinson (HOF, Gd). 3) 1921 W521 (9 cards): #6 Sisler (HOF), 7, 8, 9 Robinson (HOF), 10, 16, 17, 18 Frisch (HOF), and 20. Condition is four Vg and five lesser. 4) 1921 W551 (8 cards): Partial set of eight cards (out of ten in a complete set) consists of Baker (HOF), Bancroft (HOF), Cobb (HOF), Johnson (HOF), Pipp, Ruth (HOF, SGC VG 40), Sisler (HOF), and Speaker (HOF). Condition is two Vg and six lesser. Strip cards, of course, are by definition hand-cut, as intended, and are therefore often encapsulated by the third-party grading companies as "Authentic" even if they appear high grade, due to the cuts affecting a small portion of the cutting guide lines. REA grades strip cards slightly differently than the grading companies do. The grades we have provided above do not downgrade the cards for any minor cutting flaws which are natural to strip cards. If submitted to PSA or SGC, it is likely that some of these cards would only grade "Authentic." This is a very attractive strip-card collection highlighted by several Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth! Total: 24 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,320
