1912-1913 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 2) Tris Speaker
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,920
Extremely rare sample card of 1912-1913 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 2), featuring Hall of Famer Tris Speaker of the Boston Red Sox. T215 Red Cross is one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked issues. Very similar in design and borrowing images from the T206 set, T215 Red Cross cards are believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. The T215 of Speaker is especially desirable as it shares the same image with his T206 rookie card, which is considered by many to be one of his most attractive and classic poses. The offered example is newly discovered and grades modestly due to various condition flaws, including creasing and album residue, which obscures the reverse, but might be easily soaked off if desired to reveal the brilliant Red Cross advertisement. The card otherwise possesses bright colors, a crisp image, and outstanding centering. Despite its modest condition, this remains a very desirable and relatively affordable Hall of Fame sample from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest sets. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
