1911 T217 Mono Cigarettes SGC-Graded Collection (5)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,000

Collection of five different 1911 T217 Mono Cigarettes cards, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for one BVG). The 25-card T217 Mono Cigarettes set is one of the rarest of all Pacific Coast League issues and also one of the rarest of all 1910-era tobacco-card issues. The fronts feature black-and-white images of PCL players, while the reverses feature bold blue advertising for the company and its series of 200 portraits of leading actresses and baseball players. Many collectors have difficultly locating even a presentable sample card from this desirable issue. The offered collection is one of two lots of T217 Mono cards consigned to this auction and separated by condition. The total of fifteen different cards represented between the two lots make this offering the second largest we've ever handled from this rare series. The collection consists of the following: Howard (VG 40, highest graded), Knapp (VG/EX 50), Knight (BVG VG 3), Schmidt (VG 40), and Wares (VG 40). This is a very attractive group of rare T217s, each in particularly high grade for the issue, ideal for the serious PCL, tobacco-card, or sample-card collector. Total: 5 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,000
