1887 N175 Gypsy Queen Tug Arundel - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,800

Graded EX 60 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Scarce N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of John (Tug) Arundel of the Indianapolis Hoosiers. This card is the same size and general format as an N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly different design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large N175 Gypsy Queens, of which nine different cards are known) because the catalog does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." This card has an extremely strong image, a quality highly prized among nineteenth-century collectors. It boasts outstanding centering, light wear to the corners, and a clean blank reverse. A grade of Excellent is tremendous for an N175 as only eight cards (of any subject) have every graded EX, with just six higher. An extremely sharp-looking sample from this rare and unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
