1887 N175 Gypsy Queen Jack Farrell - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,440

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Scarce N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of Jack Farrell of the Washington Nationals. This card is the same size and general format as an N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly different design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large N175 Gypsy Queens, of which only nine different cards are known) because the catalog does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." This card has an extremely strong image, a quality highly prized among nineteenth-century collectors. It boasts virtually perfect centering, and light wear to the corners. Downgraded from a higher grade due to a faint crease, visible only from the reverse, in the lower right corner. An extremely sharp-looking example from this rare and unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
