1887 N690 Kalamazoo Bats Deacon McGuire

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC (submitted by REA). Outstanding 1887 Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card of Philadelphia Quakers catcher Deacon McGuire. Kalamazoo Bats are revered for their great rarity, unusual outdoor poses, unusual size, and unique design. This is a very attractive example that perfectly showcases the great appeal of this rare nineteenth-century tobacco issue. Extremely clean, both front and back, with exceptional contrast, and centered to the left. The photo is strong, with an abundance of the interesting details that Kalamazoos are so well known for (such as the bleachers in the background and McGuire's classic nineteenth-century pillbox cap). There is a light surface crease in the lower left corner along with corner wear at both the top and bottom left corners. The blank reverse is clean overall. This is a very attractive Kalamazoo Bats sample. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
