1909-1911 T206 White Border Walter Johnson Hands at Chest - American Beauty Back!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,680

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Hands-at-chest pose. Very attractive T206 example of Washington Senators Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson with the very unusual and scarce American Beauty 350 (no frame) advertising reverse. Johnson, of course, is one of the key Hall of Famers in the T206 White Borders set. American Beauty 350 (no frame) is a scarce back, certainly not in the same league as Drum or Uzit, but very unusual, and seen far less often than the standard Piedmont or Sweet Caporal advertising back. The offered card is bright and crisp, with a deep blue background, light touches of wear on the corners, and centering to the left. The American Beauty advertising on the back is boldly printed and well centered, with a few unobtrusive brown spots along the edges and light wrinkling in the lower left corner. This is an extremely desirable example of Walter Johnson, one of the key cards in the T206 White Border set, featuring the scarce American Beauty 350 (no frame) advertising reverse. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,680
