Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,200
Presented is an eclectic collection of thirty-three prewar cards, spanning the years 1888 to 1940 and highlighted by eight Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth, from some of the most desirable sets of the era. These cards originate from an old-time collection, and all cards (except for T206 Mowrey and M116 Barry) were submitted for grading by REA (all SGC except for five PSA as noted). The collection consists of the following: 1) 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions (1 card): Glasscock (PSA GOOD+ 2.5). 2) 1909 Colgan's Chips Square Proof (1 card): Eddie Collins (HOF, Authentic). 3) 1909 E92 Croft's Candy (1 card): Jacklitsch (EX 60). 4) 1909-1911 T206 White Border (6 cards): Chase/blue portrait (PSA Authentic, otherwise Ex), Davidson (Authentic), Elberfeld/Wash portrait (PSA Authentic, otherwise Ex), Krause/pitching (Authentic), McQuillan (PSA EX 5), and Mowrey (SGC NM 84). 5) 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life (1 card): Barry (PSA NM-MT 8). 6) 1911 T205 Gold Border (1 card): Huggins (HOF, EX+ 70). 7) 1912 T207 Brown Background (11 cards): Bescher (VG/EX+ 55), Derrick (Authentic), Dooin (Authentic), Doyle (Authentic), Evans (Authentic), Marquard (HOF, GOOD 30), Milan (VG/EX 50), Schaefer (Authentic), Tinker (HOF, VG 40), and two Wolverton (EX 60 and VG/EX+ 55). 8) 1913 T200 Fatima Cigarettes (1 card): Chicago Americans (GOOD 30). 9) 1932 Sanella (1 card): Ruth (HOF, EX/NM 80). 10) 1934 V354 World Wide Gum (4 cards): #5 Rhem (EX 60), 13 Benge (VG+ 45), 29 Speaker (HOF, FAIR 20), and 35 Manion (EX/NM 80). 11) 1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee (3 cards): #A-130 Chapman (NM 84), A-131 Pearson (Ex/NM 80), and A-133 Bridges (EX/NM 80). 12) 1940 R335 Playball (2 cards): #142 Kelly (HOF, NM+ 86, Superman Back) and 172 Bender (NM 84). This is a fascinating representation of classic card issues, most in very desirable grades, from the prewar era, including many highlights and several key Hall of Famers. The total SMR value for just twenty-two cards (excluding the ten cards graded "Authentic" and the Sanella, for which there is no SMR value) is $3,539. Total: 33 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,200
