1909-1911 T206 White Border Addie Joss Pitching - Extremely Rare Broad Leaf 460 Back - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $16,800

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Incredible example of Cleveland Naps Hall of Famer Addie Joss (pitching variation) from the T206 White Border set with the extremely rare Broad Leaf 460 advertisement on the back. This is one of only two examples of Joss with a Broad Leaf 460 back ever evaluated by PSA and SGC combined, and the offered example is the highest graded (the other example grades SGC POOR 10). Broad Leaf 460 backs are striking, unusual, and extremely rare. Even a sample of a common player is one of the most difficult-to-find of all T206 advertising backs. Examples featuring key Hall of Famers are virtually impossible in any condition. According to T206Resource.com, this back ranks as the fourth most difficult advertising reverse (of thirty-nine). While Broad Leaf (460 Series) cards are by no means easy to find, the three backs ranking ahead on the list are considered by many to be nearly impossible (they are the Ty Cobb Tobacco brand back, Brown Old Mill, and Brown Lenox, respectively). Only thirty-nine examples of any subject with the rare Broad Leaf 460 reverse (in any condition) have ever been graded by SGC, with another twenty-one graded by PSA. This is an exceptional card. It possesses very strong eye-appeal, is perfectly clean both front and back, with a crisp image, bold color, and even wear to the corners. Centered very slightly to the top, with a faint surface crease visible under close inspection near the right border. The Broad Leaf advertisement on the reverse is flawless and bold. A tiny spot of paper loss near the right border, entirely removed from the important advertising print, is the only flaw to speak of on the reverse. This is an exceptionally attractive example of one of the rarest and most desirable of all T206 advertising backs, ideally featuring Hall of Famer Addie Joss. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $16,800
