1909-1911 T206 White Border Vic Willis with Bat - Extremely Rare Brown Lenox Back!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $12,000

Presented is an example of one of the rarest of all T206 advertising reverses: the Brown Lenox. Brown Lenox backs are one of the key rarities to any complete T206 advertising-back collection, far rarer even than Uzit or Drum backs. They are virtually nonexistent. According to T206Resource.com, Brown Lenox backs are the third most difficult to find advertising reverse within the T206 set (out of thirty-nine) and rank only behind the legendary Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back and Brown Old Mill (remarkably, examples of both appear in this auction). In addition to being supremely rare, the offered card is even more noteworthy as it features Hall of Famer Vic Willis (with bat). Graded POOR 10 by SGC, the card displays a few condition flaws, including even rounding to the corners, a hairline crease near the bottom, and light pencil writing underneath the nameplate, which contribute to the assigned grade. The important reverse features a crisply printed and bold brown advertisement, with light toning and a small purple stain visible near the bottom, away from the important text. This is an incredible rarity that is worthy of the most advanced T206 or rare sample-card collection. The Brown Lenox back is one of the extreme rarities that keeps just about every collection from completion. The fact that the offered example features a Hall of Famer makes this a particularly exceptional example to represent this almost-never-seen T206 advertising back, missing from virtually every T206 advertising-back collection. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
