1909-1911 T206 White Border Mordecai Brown - Rare Red Hindu Back!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,300

Exceptionally attractive example of Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown (Chicago on shirt variation) with the extremely rare Red Hindu Cigarettes advertisement on the back. Red Hindu backs are striking, unusual, and extremely rare. According to, the Red Hindu back is the eighth toughest back (out of thirty-nine). Even a sample of a common player is tough to find, and examples featuring Hall of Famers are naturally rarer still, especially considering that the total checklist of confirmed T206 Red Hindu back examples to date is just forty-three different subjects. The card presents as Excellent overall, with a crisp image, bold colors, outstanding centering, and four strong corners showing light touches of wear under close inspection, but it has been encapsulated by PSA as "Authentic" due to evidence of alteration (submitted by REA). We cannot find the area that PSA considers altered (the card does not fluoresce under a black light). The Red Hindu print is flawless and bold. This is only the third example of Brown/Chicago with a Red Hindu reverse ever graded by PSA. This is a sharp-looking rare-back variety of this classic Mordecai Brown card from the premier tobacco-card set of the era.  Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,300
