Rare 1915 New York Giants Engraved Season Pass
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $10,800
Exceedingly rare New York Giants season pass issued for the 1915 season. While New York Giants season passes dating from the 1920s are plentiful, those issued prior to 1920 are seldom seen and this example is the most elusive of them all. This is only the third 1915 Giants season pass we have ever seen at auction in the past twenty-five years! (As a point of reference, the most recent example to appear at auction sold for $16,730 in 2013.) The beautiful design features a representation of the Polo Grounds on the front. The text reads "Season 1915/The Gates of the Polo Grounds/are open to." Below that is the engraved name of the recipient: "John L. Golden." The pass is numbered "157" and also features the engraved facsimile signature of team president Harry Hempstead in the lower right corner. The reverse provides basic information on how to score a game. John L. Golden was a famous songwriter and Broadway producer. Since Giants manager John McGraw was a familiar figure along New York's Great White Way, it 's no surprise that he provided Golden with a Giants season pass. Although silver in color, the 1915 passes were actually crafted in aluminum. As such they were slightly more prone to minor slight bends and indentations. This example is no exception and also displays normal handling wear consistent with its age and former use. In Excellent condition overall. 3.5 x 2.25 inches. Reserve $2,500.
