1909 E92 Dockman & Sons PSA-Graded Partial Set (25/40) Including Hall of Famers
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,500
Exceptionally attractive and high-grade partial set of E92 Dockman & Sons comprised of twenty-five of the forty cards in the set, all graded and encapsulated by PSA. This outstanding assembly consists of two EX+ 5.5s, two EX 5s, six VG-EX+ 4.5s, and fifteen VG-EX 4s. It is highlighted by Hall of Famers Chief Bender, Frank Chance, Sam Crawford, and Hugh Jennings. E92 Dockman & Sons is a very scarce caramel issue from 1909 that shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. PSA Grading Composite: Two EX+ 5.5: Bender (HOF) and Shean. Two EX 5: Bescher and Kleinow. Six VG-EX+ 4.5: Bemis, Bergen, Doolan, Doyle/throwing, Magee, and Schaefer. Fifteen VG-EX 4: Bridwell, Chance (HOF), Crawford (HOF), Davis, Devlin, Donovan, Dougherty, Doyle/throwing, Hartsel, Jennings (HOF), Miller, Murphy, Schlei, Schmidt, and Smith. This is an exceptional grouping of cards, each of which is bright and clean. The twenty-five cards in this set are the foundation of the #3 set on the PSA Set Registry, which has been consigned to this auction. The balance of the set is offered in eight other lots, comprised of individual cards or small groups, broken out because of either their extreme high grade or value. Caramel cards, because they were issued with candy, one card per package, did not easily escape damage or hold up well to wear over the years. This is a tremendous and very rarely offered partial set of E92 Dockmans, one of the most popular, elusive, and colorful of all “E” card issues. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $4,500
