1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel Ed Willetts PSA NM-MT 8 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,320

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level with none higher out of sixty-eight cards evaluated to date. Stunning ultra high-grade card of Ed Willetts (Detroit Tigers) from the classic E95 Philadelphia Caramel series. The E95 set was almost certainly inspired by the great success that tobacco companies were having with their cards. This set is of even greater significance in that the E95 artwork was not reissued by other manufacturers, as was so widespread with other “E” card issues. The designs used in E95 are unique to the set. These cards have a very distinctive look to them and the artwork is definitely a cut above their rivals of the time. Due to the thin stock on which they are printed, E95 Philadelphia Caramel cards are rarely found in such high grade. This card is an incredible condition rarity as only ten E95 Philadelphia Caramel cards (of any subject) have ever been graded NM-MT (none higher) by PSA out of 1,621 cards evaluated to date. Clean both front and back, with four sharp corners showing only tiny touches of wear at the extreme tips, brilliant colors, perfect centering, and near-flawless registration. Boldly printed and well-centered checklist reverse. This exceptional example in unparalleled high grade from this desirable prewar issue would make a significant addition or upgrade to any world-class E95 set or sample-card collection.
