Rare Jack Corbett Booklet - A Bit of My Life

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $120

Soft-cover booklet, titled A Bit of My Life, written by former heavyweight boxing champion James J. Corbett (1866-1933). The printing below the book's title on the cover conveys its subject matter: "Training the Body for Supervitality." No publisher or date is listed on the interior, but the back cover has lettering along the base that reads "James J. Corbett Institute, Inc./Twenty-Four and Twenty-Six Stone Street/New York City." A formal studio photograph of Corbett is featured on the first page, while the twenty-four pages reveal Corbett's secrets for achieving optimal health. Corbett, whose ring career spanned the years 1886 to 1903, captured the heavyweight boxing title in 1892 when he defeated John L. Sullivan. He eventually lost the title to Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897. This is the only copy of this book we have ever seen, let alone offered, making it an exceedingly rare and early boxing monograph by one of the most popular fighters of the nineteenth century. The book (4.5 x 6.5 inches) displays light toning to the covers and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $120
