1936 New York Yankees (vs. Boston) Program - Gehrig's 397th Career Home Run!

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $120

1936 New York Yankees program issued for a game against the Boston Red Sox. The preprinted lineups include Gehrig, DiMaggio, Lazzeri, Dickey, and Gomez for New York, and Foxx, Cronin, Ferrell, and Grove for Boston. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 10-5 Yankees win. Research indicates that the only 10-5 New York home victory over Boston in 1936 occurred during the first game of a doubleheader on June 30th. In what was expected to be a pitcher's duel between Lefty Gomez and Lefty Grove, the game instead turned into a slugfest, with Lou Gehrig and Myril Hoag both hitting home runs for the "Bronx Bombers" in the club's fourteen-hit assault. Gehrig's two-run homer, which came in the fifth inning, was his nineteenth of the season (he eventually hit a league-leading forty-nine homers that year) and 397th of his career. DiMaggio, playing in his rookie season, had one hit in five at bats. The eight-page program (6.5 x 10 inches) displays light toning and partial separation of the covers along the spine, as well as oxidation to the staples. In Very Good to Excellent condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $120
