1928 Lou Gehrig, Pepper Martin, and Cedric Durst Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,200
Official American League (Barnard) ball signed in black fountain pen by Lou Gehrig (grading "3") and Cedric Durst ("2/3"), and in blue fountain pen by Pepper Martin ("2"). Each of the signatures appears alone on a side panel. The signature of Babe Ruth on the sweet spot has been deemed a clubhouse version by JSA. This ball dates to the one-year manufacturing period 1928. Gehrig and Durst were members of the New York Yankees in 1928, while Martin was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. The fact that those two clubs met that year in the World Series makes it reasonable to assume that this ball was obtained at the 1928 fall classic, which was won by the Yankees in four games. The ball displays moderate soiling and is in Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,200
