1943 New York Yankees World Series Press-Pin Die (Dieges & Clust Archives)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840

Original Dieges & Clust metal die used to manufacture the 1943 New York Yankees World Series press pin. The octagonal die (2 inches in diameter and 2.25 inches in height), displays the 1943 New York Yankees press-pin design, as well as the die number (043232). The design incorporates a crossed-bats-and-ball motif and the lettering "New York Yankees - 1943 - World Series - Press." This is one of six Dieges & Clust production dies offered in this auction, all of which originate from the family of a former company executive. They were initially obtained by the executive when all of the company's documents, records, dies, and other production-related materials were being discarded after Dieges & Clust was sold to Herff Jones in 1979. Prior to that time, the company, which was founded in 1898 by Col. Charles Dieges and Prosper Clust, was noted for its exquisite sports-related jewelry, including the manufacture of nearly all of the World Series rings and press pins produced between the years 1923 and 1956. Additionally, the company also designed and produced baseball's MVP Award, the Heisman Trophy, numerous sports trophies and figural pieces (including the famous series of "Spalding" baseball trophies issued in the 1920s), and the 1904 Olympic medals, not to mention countless custom orders for athletes. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $840
