1910 E103 Williams Caramel Fred Tenney

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Extremely attractive example of Fred Tenney (New York Giants) from the E103 Williams Caramel issue. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, the Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pennsylvania, and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package of candy. The offered example of Tenney is graded VG 40 by SGC and presents with a deep red background, even rounding to the corners, and outstanding centering. The blank reverse is entirely clean. This is a very attractive example worthy of any complete E103 set or sample-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $960
