1912 S81 Large Silk Premium #92 Nap Rucker
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960
Extremely attractive example of #92 Nap Rucker (Brooklyn Superbas) from this popular and rare 1912 tobacco-premium issue, which is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sets ever produced. This example is entirely new to the modern collecting world, having never before been offered publicly. It is part of a small group of eight S81 silks (six baseball and two nonsport) consigned to this auction and featured in the Internet Only section. The two nonsport flags (Egypt and Turkey) accompany this Rucker silk. These silks have been in the possession of our consignor for more than twenty-five years ever since he inherited them from his great uncle. They have been carefully stored for maximum protection (as can clearly be seen) throughout the years. Each is crisp and clean, with a flawless image, unimprovable bold, bright colors, light fraying along the top and bottom, and a few light wrinkles. Very careful examination of the perimeters shows evidence of having once been sewn into a display on three sides and then carefully removed to their current state (it is difficult to see even in person, but looking very closely we can tell these were long ago sewn, as intended); they are otherwise in Excellent condition. This is a beautiful example of Rucker (plus two large flag silks) from one of the rarest and most classic of all tobacco-premium issues. Total: 3 silks. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $960
