1910 E103 Williams Caramel Nap Lajoie PSA EX-MT 6 - 1 of 1 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,500

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher by PSA. Exceptional ultra high-grade example of Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie from this very rare and classic 1910-era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, the Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pa., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children, one card per package of candy. A grade of EX-MT may not sound impressive, but it is extraordinary for an E103! Only four cards (of any subject) have ever graded EX-MT or higher by PSA out of 310 cards evaluated to date (three EX-MT 6 and one NM 7). The offered example is crisp and clean, with a flawless image, deep red background, light wear to the four corners (slightly more to the upper left), and centered to bottom left. Clean blank reverse. This would be a tremendous high-grade example for any E103, let alone a key Hall of Famer like Nap Lajoie. This is a sensational high-grade example of one of Lajoie's most desirable and striking cards, a worthy and significant addition to any advanced Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
