1886 N16 Allen & Ginter "Natives in Costume" Near-Complete Set (48/50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480

Near-complete set of forty-eight (out of fifty) 1886 N16 Allen & Ginter "Natives in Costume" cards. A very attractive near-complete set of these colorful and very striking nineteenth-century tobacco cards. Missing only Kirghiz and Turkey for completion. The front of each card depicts a representative of the featured nation dressed in traditional garb, while the reverse features a checklist for the set. This set is very consistent in appearance, ranging from Vg to Ex from the front. Approximately 75% of the cards display tiny flaws on the reverse, including small areas of paper loss, adhesive residue, or writing (all common to cards from this era), which would cause them to grade more modestly. This is a beautiful and rarely offered near-complete set of this colorful and very popular issue. Total: 48 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $480
