1942 The Three Stooges Cactus Makes Perfect One-Sheet Linen-Backed Movie Poster
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $4,200
One-sheet movie poster issued for the 1942 Three Stooges short Cactus Makes Perfect. In this outing, their second film of 1942, the boys leave home to make their fortunes and end up as miners who run afoul of two old prospectors looking to steal their gold. Three Stooges one-sheets dating from the team's "golden age" (1934-1947; those featuring Curly as part of the trio) are not only the most desirable of all paper from their films, but also the rarest. Prior to this extraordinary offering by REA (which is being conducted over a number of auctions), we have seen fewer than twenty different-titled Three Stooges one-sheets from this early era offered at public auction in the past fifteen years. To put that number in proper perspective, it should be noted that the Stooges starred in ninety-seven shorts during that fourteen-year period. The poster (27.5 x 42 inches) is linen-backed and has benefitted from minor restoration, including repair to a few tears along the fold lines and light airbrushing. Excellent to Mint in appearance. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,200
