1941 The Three Stooges An Ache In Every Stake One-Sheet Linen-Backed Movie Poster
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,400
Addendum: This poster measures 27 x 40.75 inches and appears to have a very slight 1/4-inch trim along the top border.
One-sheet movie poster issued for the 1941 Three Stooges short An Ache In Every Stake. This was the Stooges' fifty-seventh film for Columbia, which is best remembered for their attempt to deliver blocks of ice up a flight of 147 steps. Three Stooges one-sheets dating from the team's "golden age" (1934-1947; those featuring Curly as part of the trio) are not only the most desirable of all paper from their films, but also the rarest. Prior to this extraordinary offering by REA (which is being conducted over a number of auctions), we have seen fewer than twenty different-titled Three Stooges one-sheets from this early era offered at public auction in the past fifteen years. To put that number in proper perspective, it should be noted that the Stooges starred in ninety-seven shorts during that fourteen-year period. The poster (27 x 41 inches) is linen-backed and has benefitted from restoration, including repair to a few tears along the fold lines and coloring to the first "S" in "Stooges" and the "C" in Ache" in the printed title. Light toning and a few tack holes are also evident. Very Good to Excellent in appearance. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).SOLD FOR $8,400
