2005 Bob Dylan Signed Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball Jersey with Documentation!

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,560

Offered here is one of our favorite items in the auction. We love Bob Dylan, and we love baseball, but it is very rare to find a high quality baseball-related Bob Dylan item. OK... Make that never. For us anyway. Until now! Offered here is an item that we think would be a highlight in even the most advanced baseball jersey collection (if the jersey collector is a Bob Dylan fan, of course), and naturally has tremendous crossover appeal for all baseball and rock-and-roll collectors: a Myrtle Beach Pelicans minor-league jersey signed by iconic singer/songwriter Bob Dylan. This is not just any random jersey that has by chance been signed. This is a jersey with a great history, that was prepared by a professional baseball club, with Dylan's name on the back, specifically for Bob Dylan to sign so it could be sold at auction to raise money for charities sponsored by the minor league Pellicans baseball club. Bob Dylan is a big baseball fan, but he never played professional baseball. (If you ever thought you saw him on the field, we can assure you Bob would say "It ain't me, Babe.") So this is as close to a Bob Dylan professional baseball jersey that you will ever see. It is very likely the only one in existence. Ideally, it is also accompanied by ironclad provenance. Here's the story: On June 3, 2005, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson performed together at a concert held at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Coastal Federal Field is the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, which, in 2005, was a minor-league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Pelicans were co-producers of the 2005 concert and team officials came up with a novel idea to raise money for the club's charity auction. After the concert, the team asked both Dylan and Nelson to sign specially produced Pelican jerseys, each featuring the respective name of the performer on the back and numbered "05" (denoting the year). The sale of the jerseys at auction was later documented in the club's February 2006 newsletter (a copy of the newsletter accompanies the jersey), which pictures both the Wilson jersey and the offered Dylan jersey, and provides detailed information about the respective charities that benefitted from the sale (100% of the proceeds from the sale of the jerseys went to the charities). Although the newsletter does not list the final sale price for each jersey, it does note that bidding on the Dylan jersey started at $300 and quickly climbed to $1,100. Dylan has signed the Pelicans home jersey in black Sharpie (grading "9") on the upper left breast (directly above the team name). As noted earlier, the jersey features Dylan's name on the back and the number "05" on the left breast and reverse. The jersey (produced by Rawlings; size "48"), displays no wear and, aside from a tiny speck of light discoloration on the front, remains in Near Mint to Mint condition. While we cannot state with certainty how many Bob Dylan baseball jerseys exist, we can affirm that this is the only example we have ever seen or heard of, making it one of the rarest, most unusual and fascinating Bob Dylan signed items in the collecting world. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,560
